Setup adds SftTree/NET to the Toolbox of Visual Studio 2019, 2022 and 2026 for .NET Framework projects. If the control is missing from the Toolbox, it can be added manually as described below.
.NET 10 projects get the control in the Toolbox from the SftTree/NET NuGet package instead, see Using SftTree/NET with .NET 10.
To add a control to your Toolbox, follow these simple steps:
Open a form in your project in design view. Right-click anywhere on the Toolbox and select "Add Tab" from the popup menu.
This creates a new tab for the control to be added.
To complete the new tab, enter a suitable tab label. In this example, we enter "Softel vdm, Inc." and press Return.
Once the tab has been added, we are ready to add controls to it.
Right-click the heading of the new tab and select "Choose Items..." from the popup menu.
This will present the Choose Toolbox Items dialog, which is used to locate the assembly for the control you want to add. On the .NET Framework Components page, click Browse...
All controls published by us are located in a product specific subdirectory located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Softelvdm\productname\Bin (substitute the actual product name).
Locate the assembly and click Open. In this example, the SftTree/NET 3.0 assembly Softelvdm.SftTreeNET.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Softelvdm\SftTree NET 3.0\Bin is added.
This will return you to the Choose Toolbox Items dialog which now shows the newly added SftTree control, selected and checked.
Finally, click OK and the control now appears in your Toolbox.
